Dear Amanda,
It’s always hard for me to write a letter which I know will disappoint the recipient. It’s even harder for me to write such a letter to a Bread Loafer! I’m sorry to tell you that we cannot offer you a waitership to come to Bread Loaf this summer. We receive many more applications that we have awards to give, and must disappoint many candidates, albeit reluctantly. Our readers found much to admire in your work, noting your deft comic touch and accomplished psychological textures, adn we’re sorry we can’t make an award to you.
We hope you’ll consider applying another time; we would like to have you with us again at Bread Loaf.
