The date to save is Sunday, February 6th, when, in a truly awesome act of kindness and solidarity, an all-star line up of writers (including Susan Cheever, Joshua Ferris, Jonathan Safran Foer, Jonathan Franzen, Mary Gaitskill, Rivka Galchen, Amy Hempel, A.M. Homes, Mary-Beth Hughes, Nicole Krauss, Fiona Maazel, Rick Moody, Leigh Newman, Richard Price, George Saunders, Gary Shteyngart, Wesley Stace, Hannah Tinti, and Sean Wilsey) will gather together at PS 122 in the East Village to help out friend, Yaddo writer, Happy Ending alum, and Beautiful Children author Charles Block, and his wife Diana Colbert. Diana has leukemia and needs a second bone marrow transplant early in the new year, and we want to do all we can to help their family out during this tough time. We hope you’ll join us for the evening, which promises boatloads of fun, and will do a lot of good for some really good people.
In addition to star-studded literary mingling, the New York Times has reported that there will also be an auction. Up for grabs are: dog walking services from Amy Hempel; a song written by Rick Moody; a hot dog and a compliment from Gary Shteyngart, and many more surprising/shocking items. Throw in tasty morsels from Cleaver Co. caterers, free beer from Brooklyn Brewery and performances by the likes of John Wesley Harding, and you’ve got yourself a true blast. So please come out and show your love for Charles and Diana in the new year.
Tickets go on sale January 10th. You can buy tickets and make donations through the website here.
