ROAD RUMINATIONS AFTER THE FACT….
COMMUNICATION about TOURING….
The key to a successful tour planned by someone else is communication. I learned that after the fact. I am just an anxious, neurotic, jewish girl from New York uncomfortable behind the wheel and above 14th street. My tour was a biggin, and my vision of the tour was different than the vision my publisher had for my tour. We all got so excited about the idea of the tour that we never actually stopped to discuss what I was and wasn’t capable of. This, I realize now, was a crucial mistake. We all worked incredibly hard. Soft Skull put in a gazillion hours, and sweat into this tour, as did I, but we forgot to do it together. So, my advice for novice tour-ists is to figure out what you want, what your vision of the tour is and compare it to your publisher’s vision and then, compromise. Things should run smoothly after that.
COMMUNICATION while TOURING….
As well, communicate with the people on tour with you. Everyone has expectations about touring, some think it’ll be a vacation, others think it’ll be a party and others know it’s work. Discuss your expectations before you leave or you’ll be bashing heads the whole way.
ROAD RUMINATIONS on THE ROAD……
Trees are pretty
Nature is nice
That dog has three legs
This car is crashing
This motel has bugs
Trains are long and warm
Big Daddy is a stupid movie
Chinese food would be really nice
How does this map work?
