I VERY RARELY, if ever, book POETRY. It's not worth your time inquiring about that.

PLEASE KNOW THAT AT HAPPY ENDING ALL READERS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE ONE PUBLIC RISK. SOME OF THESE RISKS HAVE INCLUDED: speed french braiding, getting a public haircut, reading aloud pin code numbers, stage diving from the bar, riding a unicycle, teaching thai cheers and re-enacting failed Disney theme park auditions. DO NOT PITCH ME ON YOUR RISK. THE RISK IS THE HOOK, NOT THE BASIS FOR WHICH A PERSON IS BOOKED.

Happy Ending is a forum for authors and musicians I think are doing the most interesting work today. I am interested in artists who take risks in their work and are willing to take risks on stage. The series is heavily curated. This means that the authors and musicians who appear reflect my taste. I am not inclined toward airport fiction and I never book genre fiction. I also don't book self-help, chick lit or spoken word. While I do book poetry, it's so seldom, it's not really worth pitching.

DOs:

1. ONCE AGAIN: to be considered for a spot at this series, you must have at least published one book
2. Please have a copy of your book or galley sent to me (email me for address: amanda@amandastern.com)
3. If galleys aren't ready, you may send a sample chapter and a press release. Please attach as a Microsoft Word Document.
4. Raconteurs: If you are interested in telling a story, please send to me as text.

5. Have a look at the previous authors who have read at Happy Ending. Treat this like you would a submission to a magazine. If you see I don't book very trendy fiction, pitching me very trendy fiction won't serve you well.
